Free things to do

Let's start off with the best free things to do in Sevilla, because who doesn't love some free city exploration?

Parque de María Luisa

Wandering through Parque de María Luisa is a must when in Sevilla. This romantic park, once part of the Palace of San Telmo gardens, offers a peaceful escape with its stunning landscapes designed by the French architect Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier. Explore the charming Plaza de América, home to the Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions. The park's many fountains, statues, and themed gardens, such as the Garden of the Ducks, create perfect spots for relaxing walks and photography.

Plaza de España

This beautiful plaza is located within the Parque de María Luisa. Plaza de España is famous for its grand semicircular building and picturesque canal. The plaza features colorful ceramic tilework depicting scenes from different Spanish provinces, each represented by a beautiful bench adorned with corresponding tiles. Walk around to admire the stunning architecture, the bridges over the canal, and the central fountain.

Triana
Triana is a bustling neighborhood in Sevilla, bursting with character and charm. Located just across the Guadalquivir River, this historic district is famous for its lively flamenco scene, colorful ceramics, and rich cultural heritage. Click here to book a flamenco show in the Triana district. Wander through its narrow streets to discover traditional tapas bars, local artisan shops, and stunning churches. Don’t miss the Triana Market, with fresh local food and delicious Andalusian specialties (open from Monday till Saturday).

Puente de Isabel II

Also known as the Triana Bridge, Puente de Isabel II stands as the oldest iron bridge in Sevilla. Spanning the Guadalquivir River, it serves as a vital link connecting the bustling city center to the vibrant Triana neighborhood. Stroll across the bridge to soak in panoramic views of the river and the city skyline. If you're in for a unique experience, you can book a boat tour on the Guadalquivir River.

Barrio Santa Cruz

The former Jewish quarter of the city is nestled in the heart of Sevilla. It's currently the bustling tourist hub of the city and home to some of Sevilla's most famous landmarks. Here, you will find the Gothic Cathedral of Sevilla, the Giralda bell tower and the majestic Royal Palace decorated with Moorish and Renaissance influences. This charming neighborhood is a maze of narrow alleys filled with orange blossoms and souvenir shops offering handcrafted treasures and traditional ceramics.

Sevilla Cathedral

The Sevilla Cathedral is the largest Gothic

cathedral and third-largest church overall in the

world. The cathedral was built on the site of a

former mosque, which was demolished to make

way for the Christian cathedral after the

Reconquista. Some elements of the mosque’s

structure were incorporated into the new

cathedral’s design. The giralda tower of the

cathedral was originally built as a minaret during

the mosque’s existence and was later converted

into a bell tower. This UNESCO World Heritage

Site cannot be missed when visiting Sevilla.

Giralda tower

Climb the Giralda tower for awesome city views and admire the Cathedral and the city center from above. Make sure you buy a ticket for both the Giralda Tower and the Cathedral, the views from above are worth it!

Real Alcázar

This breathtaking palace complex is one of the most beautiful examples of Mudéjar architecture (which represents a fusion of Islamic and Christian design elements). Its beauty has made it a popular filming location for movies and series, including the hit series “Game of Thrones.” Expect to spend 1-2 hours here to explore all of the beautiful gardens and palace buildings. Buy your tickets here to avoid the long line.

Metropol Parasol

Another place to get great views of Sevilla's skyline is Metropol Parasol, located on the La Encarnación square in the historic center of Sevilla. It is the largest wooden structure in the world and also known as Las Setas de Sevilla (Sevilla’s Mushrooms). I would recommend to go at night to see the beautiful light show displayed by the mushrooms. During the evening hours, Sevilla’s most iconic buildings are lit up, creating a truly enchanting and unique cityscape.

Torre del Oro

The Torre del Oro is another spot to watch the city from above. This watchtower, overlooking the Guadalquivir River, is a historic gem that dates back to the 13th century and offers a glimpse into the city’s past. Climb to the top for panoramic views of Sevilla's skyline and the river below. As you explore, you'll find a small maritime museum inside, detailing the tower’s role in the city's naval history. Tip: visit around sunset for the best views.

Tip: get to know the city by bike on your first day. By booking this guided bike tour, you will visit all of Sevilla's highlights and lesser-known spots in three hours, giving you a good overview of Sevilla.

Great restaurant in the heart of the Alameda de Hércules, a lively square with great atmosphere. It is known for its fusion of Andalusian and Moroccan dishes and they have great vegan options.

Gusto Sevilla

Located near the iconic cathedral of Sevilla, this restaurant serves traditional Andalusian dishes with a modern twist. Tip: go for the vegan paella, it's really good!

Vegani

Lovely restaurant serving the vegan versions of traditional Spanish tapas.

El rincón de Beirut

Lebanese restaurant with great vegan options for a very reasonable price.

The best time to visit Sevilla is during the spring and fall seasons. In my opinion fall is the best season, then comes spring, then winter and then summer. Here's a breakdown of all the seasons in Sevilla:

Spring

Weather: Spring offers mild and pleasant weather with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F).

Events: This season is marked by two of Sevilla's most famous festivals: Semana Santa (Holy Week) and Feria de Abril (April Fair). Semana Santa, usually held in March or April, features processions and parades, and the Feria de Abril, typically held two weeks after Easter, is a festival with flamenco dancing, bullfights, and a fairground.

Crowds: These festivals attract many visitors, so the city can be crowded, but there will be a great festive atmosphere.

Fall

Weather: Fall also offers comfortable temperatures, ranging from 20°C to 30°C (68°F to 86°F) in September and gradually cooling down.

Crowds: While still popular, fall is less crowded than spring, making it an ideal time for sightseeing without the large festival crowds.

Winter

Weather: Winter is mild compared to many other European cities, with temperatures ranging from 8°C to 16°C (46°F to 61°F).

Events: The holiday season brings festive decorations and events, making it a cozy time to visit. However, some attractions may have shorter hours.

Crowds: This is the off-peak season, so there are fewer tourists and lower accommodation prices.

Summer

Weather: Summer can be extremely hot, with temperatures often exceeding 35°C (95°F), and sometimes reaching 40°C (104°F) or higher.

Crowds: Many locals leave the city for coastal areas, but tourists still visit, especially those looking for a budget-friendly trip as prices for accommodation can drop. If you do visit in summer, plan activities for early morning or late evening, and take advantage of the siesta hours to rest during the hottest part of the day.
